About Dice Friendly

A little bit of information about who is making this, and why

Dice Friendly is, currently, Davey Faherty, also known as me. Notice the common initials, it's like the Da Vinci Code or something! I'm a freelance software developer based in Northern Ireland, and if I look out the window I can see the hill where Hugh O Neill had his castle. If you're not familiar with Hugh O Neill, look him up, he's got a meaty backstory you could rob for an RPG character.

I came up with Dice Friendly as a name I could use to keep projects in the role-playing niche in one nice conceptual wrapper, so it doesn't get confused with my more day-to-day, business software work. That would be too much excitement in one place, none of us would be able to handle it.

I'm a late-blooming entrant to the role-playing hobby. My first Dungeons and Dragons campaign was played above Ryans on Store St, Dublin and was run by Tom Termini. On one memorable occasion we had to make room for a Vampire LARP and ended up playing in Hughes pub on Abbey St, where to our delight a live trad session started and gave our game tons of atmosphere. I love playing in person though I'm currently more of a remote player these days, handling many an RPG pdf before and after sessions, as a game master or player.

Like a lot of software developers who also play RPGs, I do daydream about combining the two commercially. In practice, I'm happy to build something good enough to share with others, and isn't that what the hobby is all about really. However, if I end up as a space billionaire out of this project, I do promise to send you a postcard from Europa.

Dice Friendly Librarian is an idea that's been rattling around in my head for a little while now, and I'm curious to see if people find it useful.
